Check-in for the Backpacking Trip will take place at Hilliard Church of Christ, located at 4300 Avery Rd, Hilliard, OH 43026.

The 2024 Backpacking Trip will take place in Red River Gorge in Kentucky!

Leaving modern comforts behind, campers will carry everything with them for multi-day hikes through true backcountry. This will be an experience unlike any other! Campers will learn basic backpacking skills such as filtering water, building fires and camping in the backcountry. Practicing the "Leave No Trace" philosophy, they will engage in low-impact camping to respect the beauty of God's creation. Leaders will provide worship and teaching moments around the campfire, and campers will practice a quiet reflection and prayer time each morning! For more information, contact Lyle Baker

CAMPERS AND GUARDIANS PLEASE READ!

What to expect on the trip

1) We’ll be hiking a LOT! You’ll be carrying everything in your backpacks. Again, please understand that even though this is a beginner-friendly trip, backpacking is still difficult. There are many hills to climb and descend in the Red! Backcountry adventuring is challenging!

2) We’ll have to contend with whatever weather happens! Come prepared for rain. Bring a poncho- if you are bringing a hammock, bring a tarp or rainfly, etc.. If weather gets too severe we will leave the woods and will find real shelter.

3) We’ll be able to re-supply at the trailhead every couple of days and will visit a local campground for showers and food every few days as well.

4) Camp has some gear available to share, but campers are ultimately responsible for coming prepared. Parents and campers- please read through the gear check lists thoroughly. Contact Lyle with any questions!

5) Backpacking is an extremely fun and adventurous way to get outside! Campers will need to be mature and flexible to get the most out of it. Being out in the woods for a week is physically and mentally challenging. If you come prepared to grow and be challenged, you’ll leave very satisfied and will probably be hooked on backpacking. The Red might become one of your favorite places!

We can't wait for this year's trip!
