Check-in for the Backpacking Trip will take place at Hilliard Church of Christ, located at 4300 Avery Rd, Hilliard, OH 43026.

Exciting updates for 2023! This trip has been expanded, giving campers the opportunity to experience both the Red River Gorge (Kentucky) and the Great Smoky Mountains (Tennessee)! The tuition increase for 2023 reflects the additional travel costs as campers test their backpacking skills in two different states over the course of this trip.

Leaving modern comforts behind, campers will carry everything with them for multi-day hikes through true backcountry. This will be an experience unlike any other! Campers will learn basic backpacking skills such as filtering water, building fires and camping in the backcountry. Practicing the "Leave No Trace" philosophy, they will engage in low-impact camping to respect the beauty of God's creation.

WARNING: this is a high impact and physical week of camp.

Campers will meet at the designated location for check-in. They will then ride vans down to the trip site. More details will be provided at registration. For more information: contact Lyle Baker

What to expect on the trip

1) You will hike 30+ miles throughout the week.
2) The 2023 trip will be more advanced due to the addition of the Smokies! It's recommended that campers have previous experience in backcountry hiking and/or camping. The hike in the Smoky Mountains is a 3-day loop that will include a section of the Appalachian Trail!
3) You will have the opportunity to shower and eat at a local campground every couple of days.
4) Campers will supply some of their gear while other items will be provided by the camp. Contact the dean for more information. A gear checklist is available below.
